Overview: Sculpture The Kiss in Rusty Bronze

The Kiss statue is one of the most famous sculptures by Auguste Rodin. The Kiss by Auguste Rodin was said to be inspired by the passionate love of Francesca da Rimini and Paolo Malatesta. The Kiss, which depicts the lovers in an embrace of love and desire, is considered by many as the only sculpture that really shows feelings and passion between two people in love. Auguste Rodin firstly intended to make this statue a part of the Gates of Hell (just like the Thinker), but later decided they simply didn't fit and made The Kiss a separate sculpture. The Kiss clearly shows the complexity of an act of kissing and the amount of emotion between the lovers. The Kiss clearly indicates the "strong man", who appears to be more tense and more "concentrated" on the kissing, whereas the woman is totally relying on the him, deeply emotionally involved and loses herself in the act of The Kiss.
