Overview: Sculpture Menina Air and Metal in Red Nickel
In this sculpture, Miguel Guía draws on the famous theme of Velázquez's Las Meninas. Using cubism as a vehicle, he simplifies forms and spaces while wrapping the desired contours with planes and lines, filling the shapes with rhythm and transporting us to Velázquez's painting in a single glance. At the same time, he surprises us with this special red patina, which will stand out in any stylish home for its strength.
A much more limited edition that will increase in value over time.
When Dalí was once asked, “What would you save from the Prado Museum if it caught fire and you could save only one thing?”, he replied... the air and space within the painting of Velázquez's Las Meninas. This phrase inspires Miguel Guía to name this work.
